Current Exhibits
(Opening
March 5th) "Personal
Geography" by Maureen Bardusk in
the Frehner Gallery at
the Monroe Arts Center, 1315 - 11th Street, Monroe. (608) 325-5700, info@monroeartscenter.com.
Employing map imagery, painting, drawing, embroidery, silk screening, and stitching methods along with found objects such as paper, metal, and photographs, this Galena, Illinois artist produces the many layers found within each piece of studio wall art of this Galena, Illinois artist. The urban, built architecture, prairies, mounds, rivers, and oak savannas of the Driftless Area of Illinois, as well as mountains and open skies of the western United States, are the inspiration for these monumental works of art constructed on an intimate scale. Abstract details filtered through memory rather than being realistic depictions and are based on actual times, places, and experiences in the life of the artist - revealing an inner exploration of a personal geography.
Memories of the School House at the Stephenson County Historical Society, 1440 S. Carroll Avenue in Freeport. (815) 232-8419, Director@StephCoHS.org. $3 adults, $1 children includes the exhibit plus the entire museum complex. Friday, Saturday & Sunday, noon to four. Exhibit ends March 29, 2004.

A mean, keen comedy about a snarling trio of corporate number-crunchers
vying for one-upmanship. Their
added discomfort of assignment to cramped living quarters on an industrial
compound in a far-off country means even more fun for you.
March 5, Friday - Christine Lavin in "What

Monroe Arts Center, 1315 - 11th Street, Monroe. (608) 325-5700, info@monroeartscenter.com.

From her outrageously funny, modern folk songs like “Making Friends with
My Grey Hair, ”and “Harrison Ford” in which Christine details her
chance encounter with this matinee idol, Christine Lsvin has a way of
turning life’s woes into a reason to laugh. You’ll have a wonderful
time when you spend the evening with this singer, songwriter, and
comedienne, who is a “one of a kind concert.”
