The Stephenson County Historical Society Museum is funded in part by the
Freeport Park District. We are grateful for the Park District's support in our
building maintenance and arboretum upkeep.
The Historical Society is financially responsible for our operational costs, staff
payroll, exhibit expense, special events and collection maintenance. We receive
income for our expenses through membership fees, donations, gift shop sales, admission
fees and special fund raisers.
Thank you for your support!

There is no shortage of work to be done to improve and maintain the Stephenson County
Historical Society and Museums. Whether you'd like to donate an hour a year or an
hour a week, your help will be very much appreciated. Please take a look through the
list and see what suits your fancy!
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities:
Taylor Gardeners tend to the heritage gardens on the
Historical Society grounds. They weed, plant, move and care for a variety of
flowers, herbs, plants and trees. The Taylor Gardeners generally
work each Thursday mornings in the spring, summer and fall, but work can
be done anytime to suit your own schedule.
Tour Guides provide tours to visitors for school
groups, special events and on regular open days. Training is provided and volunteers
can choose to guide visitors through the Taylor House, Log Cabin, School House, Farm
Museum or all of the buildings. We tend to have most school tours
in the spring and fall, with adult tours throughout the year.
Accessioning can be done on your own
schedule. Volunteers log items in the collection noting a brief description, their location and
condition.
