The house's front parlor is part of a front parlor/rear parlor plan common in the 19th century. Although the furniture and art objects in this parlor did not belong to the Taylors, they are typical of what they may have had. |

The furniture in the dining room (except for the china cabinet) came from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. It was purchased by W.T. Rawleigh and donated to the Historical Society in the 1940s. The china cabinet on the right contains the society's Dirksen silverware collection. |
This unusual plant is a Christmas Cactus. It was planted in 1905 and has been growing ever since. |

During the Victorian era, the role of germs in disease was just being discovered. This bed was designed to keep away the cold drafts as its occupant slept. After getting into bed, the sleeper would pull up the front panel, providing shelter from the evening air. |
