Photographs: Photographers
in Freeport, Illinois 1867
to 1930 Updated 02/10/04 Many
photographers mark their photographs, and knowing when a particular
photographer was in business can help you date your antique photographs.
The
following is a list of photographers from the 1867 to 1930 Freeport City
Directories in the collection of the Stephenson County Historical Society.
The photographers are in alphabetical order. The dates next to each photographer indicates the City Directory (or other source) that includes that name at that address.
When looking at addresses, note that in 1920 Freeport's street numbering system was changed. Any address that includes North, South, East or West dates to 1920 or later. Jenks Bros., for example, is listed as 118 Stephenson Street in 1917 and then at 24 West Stephenson in 1921. The photographer didn't move - the numbering system changed.
(Volunteer Request: If you are interested in searching through the rest of the City Directories from 1930 to the present, or if you would like to look through old newspapers, etc., for photographers before 1867 please let me know!) Allen,
Samuel
