The Taylor Room is located in the house's rear parlor. It is furnished exclusively with items belonging to the Taylor family. All of the items reflect the individuality of their owners. |
This red velvet sofa appears in many family photographs and is described in loving detail in the book His Broken Sword by Winnie Taylor. Winnie also wrote The Man Behind the Bars, an account of her work with prisoners and prison reform. |

This is a page from "Songs of the Centuries," Charissa Taylor Bass's book of illuminated poetry done as a gift to her husband. It took 28 years to complete this labor of love. She studied the art of illumination with the official illuminator of royal documents in England. Each poem is decorated in the style of its century with a 20th century poem illuminated in her own unique style. |
At age 60, Malvina Snow Taylor began painting china. When she was 76 she painted the wildflowers of Illinois in fine, botanically correct detail. The collection of 136 plates was featured at the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago. |
