our mission

The mission of the Stephenson County Historical Society, in partnership with the Freeport Park District, is to preserve, present, and promote local and regional history.  This is achieved by maintaining and collecting quality artifacts, by educating the community, by collaborating with other institutions and organizations, and by interpreting and professionally presenting our local history.  By fulfilling our mission, we unify the Stephenson County community through pride in its rich and historical traditions.

Museum Open Hours

The Historical Society Museum and Gift Shop are open Wednesday thru Sunday, from noon to four.

Admission is free for members of the Historical Society or $8 for non-member adults and $4 for non-member children 6-12 years old.

With groups of ten or more, you can schedule a group tour if you call at least two weeks ahead. Group tours are not restricted to regular open hours and can be scheduled for days or evenings, during the week or on weekends - whatever works for you.  A "group" is any gathering of people -- a school class, scout troop, Bible study group, bridge club or even a casual gathering of friends. Group Tours are available for both children and adults, and special rates are available.  Group Tours can be arranged to highlight a specific topic or theme for your group.
